War and piece: Review on Britten’s War requiem with LSO in Barbican center

As is traditional, soprano Sabina Cvilak was positioned high above the orchestra with the Chorus: the increased distance did not prevent a powerful performance. The writing of the soprano part is exceptionally beautiful; her rendition of the ‘Lacrimosa’, soaring of the laments of the Chorus, was particularly memorable.

Cozy Fun, Two-Timing

Sabina Cvilak was a revelation. When she finishes “Per pietà,” it is evident that this day has been more than just a challenge to Fiordiligi; she looks like a woman who has barely survived an internal civil war. The sympathy she achieved made the tragedy of this farce deeply felt.
